Hybrid Topography of Lotus Leaf under Hydrostatic/Hydrodynamic Pressure

نویسندگان

چکیده

Abstract The superhydrophobic characteristics and functional durability of the lotus leaf are determined by its surface flexible multistage topography. In this study, it is found that hybrid arrangement sub‐millimeter (sub‐mm) micron papillae arrays on edge leaves more conducive to resistance hydrostatic hydrodynamic water pressure, which provides a guarantee for survival leaves. Inspired special design, structure prepared template method, whose contains sub‐mm pillars, micropillars, nanostructures. It has obvious advantages in resisting continuous impact droplets. This systematic study reveals why can withstand fluid impact, theoretical experimental basis improving artificial function.

Superhydrophobic behavior of a perfluoropolyether lotus-leaf-like topography.

We demonstrate the fabrication of 2-D arrays of nanopillars made from perfluoropolyether derivatives using a porous anodic aluminum oxide membrane as a template. Pretexturing the aluminum prior to anodization enables one to engineer multiple morphological length scales and thereby synthesize a lotus-leaf-like topography. Both nanopillars on a flat surface and on a lotus-leaf-like topology exhib...

Electrowetting on a lotus leaf.

Electrowetting on dielectrics has been widely used to manipulate and control microliter or nanoliter liquids in micro-total-analysis systems and laboratory on a chip. We carried out experiments on electrowetting on a lotus leaf, which is quite different from the equipotential plate used in conventional electrowetting. This has not been reported in the past. The lotus leaf is superhydrophobic an...

Extraction of lotus fibres from lotus stems under microwave irradiation

An efficient technology for preparing lotus fibres under microwave irradiation was developed. The lotus fibres were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry, X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetry. Lotus fibres prepared are a kind of hollow fibres which are composed of a superfine fibre and an external shell. The effect of the treatment time with hy...

Superhydrophobicity in perfection: the outstanding properties of the lotus leaf

Lotus leaves have become an icon for superhydrophobicity and self-cleaning surfaces, and have led to the concept of the 'Lotus effect'. Although many other plants have superhydrophobic surfaces with almost similar contact angles, the lotus shows better stability and perfection of its water repellency. Here, we compare the relevant properties such as the micro- and nano-structure, the chemical c...

Applications and Engineering Analysis of Lotus Roots under External Water Pressure

Engineers can learn from nature for inspirations to create new designs. The internal structure of lotus roots with several oval holes was studied in this paper for engineering inspirations. The structural performance of lotus roots under outside water pressure was simulated and compared with various cross-sectional areas. The distribution of stresses in the cross-sectional area of lotus roots w...
